Tiger Strength Systems
by Jon Magendie
My name is Jon Magendie, and I'm a Powerlifting coach. I competed in high school and
college. I was a State finalist three years in high school and All-American three years in
college. I have always been on winning teams. My high school, Robt. E. Lee High in Baton
Rouge won state my junior and senior year. In college at Louisiana Tech, I was part of
National Champion teams in 1994 and 1995. I was an Assistant Coach at Tech after that,
and we won again in 1996, 1997, 1998, and 1999, which was my last year to work with them.
In 2000 I started my own team at Nicholls State, a small Div. I-AA school in south Louisiana.
With that school of only 7500 students, we made back to back Women's Collegiate National
Champion teams in 2004 and 2005. Both years we only had 8 lifters, not the full roster of 10.
Over the years since I started coaching on my own (2000), I've worked hard to make
champions out of lifters, and to help these people who work so hard realize their dreams of
standing on top of the podium or just reaching whatever goal it is that they had that brought
them to me.

What is TigerStrength.net?
TigerStrength.net is a page for me to showcase some
athletes who won't get into Sports Illustrated. They're not
going to be on Sportscenter. They work harder than alot of
other college athletes, pay their way to competitions, pay for
the use of the gym they train at, work and go to school full
time. But they're not NCAA athletes. They don't have
scholarships for powerlifting (no one does), they don't get
endorsements and free stuff from the school. They work
their tails off in a little gym day in and day out. Why?
To win.
Winning for some is a World Championship (5 lifters). For
some, its a National Championship (47 lifters). Others hope
to get All-American status (over 50). All of them have one
goal in common though: to get better.
They have chosen me as their coach and I'm damn proud of
them. This is a way to show them off to whomever stumbles
upon my page.
I'm not selling programs or offering personal training
anymore; my schedule prevents me from doing this right
now. I'd hoped to subsidize some of my travel costs via that
route, but I don't have time to help all the people who've
requested it, and I'm not willing to make a half-effort. If you
want some help, drop me an email and I'll do what I can to
help out.
Most of my lifters are members of the LSU Powerlifting Club;
some attend different universities like SLU in Hammond, Our
Lady of the Lake Medical College, and BRCC.
I'll work with anyone who wants to work hard and get better.
Come on in.
